anti aging hand treatments How Hand Treatments Can Make You Look YoungerBy: Joely Kaufman, M.D.

Patients who are concerned about the effects of aging often choose facial treatments from a board-certified dermatologist. At my practice in Miami, I often recommend focusing on another area of the body that visibly reflects age: the hands. Wrinkles and sun spots on the surface of your hands can give your age away, no matter how fresh your face looks. For this reason, I recommend the following treatments:

  • Fractional laser treatments: Fractional lasers represent a marriage of ablative and non-ablative laser techniques, providing optimal results with less downtime and fewer unwanted side effects. Fractional lasers help to improve many age-related skin concerns, including sun spots, wrinkles, poor skin texture, laxity, scarring, and more. Just 1 treatment can drastically improve the tone, texture, and appearance of your hands, and additional treatments offer even greater benefits.
  • Skin photorejuvenation: Light-based skin therapies such as intense pulsed light (IPL) are another great option for hand rejuvenation. These procedures use photothermal energy to stimulate the skin’s own healing response. Photorejuvenation is great for reducing skin discoloration, including sun spots, age spots, hyperpigmentation, redness, and rosacea.
  • Dermal fillers: As we age, our skin loses collagen and begins to appear thin and fragile. This can make veins and other blood vessels more visible, especially on the hands. Dermal fillers add volume to the skin and create a plumping effect that provides a soft, youthful look. The results can last 6 months or more, depending on the type of filler used.
