Throughout the world, anti-aging is big business. As a researcher and dermatologist in Miami, I see this firsthand nearly every day. Men and women from all walks of life crave access to the most innovative ingredients, the newest technologies, and the most cutting-edge treatments. The future of anti-aging is constantly changing as ideas are formed, studied, and revised. I’m so excited to be on the forefront of these advancements, and I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to offer these services to my patients.

Here’s a preview of 3 up-and-coming treatments that may soon be seen in an office near you:

  • Teosyal®: Called Tyosyal in its country of origin, France, Teosyal uses hyaluronic acid – the same active ingredient found in some stateside fillers – to sculpt and lift the skin. Devotees say that Teosyal provides versatile results that last longer than other fillers, an attractive option for patients pressed for time. Teosyal has shown particular promise on the jawline, an area that can lose shape and volume with age – but more research is needed before it gains FDA approval.
  • VOLUMA™: Allergan has introduced a new cross-linking technology for hyaluronic acid fillers. VOLUMA is the first filler with this technology to be FDA-approved. VOLUMA is used for filling and lifting the cheek area and is a great filler for a natural, soft, rejuvenated look. This cross-linking allows for longer duration of the filler: up to 2 years. Other fillers with this new cross-linking technology will likely be introduced in the coming years. As these products are approved, we will be able to use this new technology for a wider range of volume and structural issues in the aging face, with greater duration than with previous filling agents.
  • LAVIV™: FDA-approved LAVIV is a breakthrough in the way we increase collagen production and reduce facial lines. Using a sample of your own skin, the scientists of LAVIV work to develop your own personal serum – rich with stem cells – to be injected into your nasolabial folds, crow’s feet, cheeks, forehead, or lines at the corners of the mouth. Because your LAVIV serum is derived from your own cells, it’s a well-tolerated way to reduce wrinkles and skin laxity.
